Why You Need To Add Apple Extract Into Your Skincare Routine

October 11, 2019

Apples are packed with antioxidants which can help to improve the appearance of the skin and reverse the signs of aging.

We’ve come a long way since the fruity skin care products of our teenaged youth, and although we’ve graduated from the overpowering artificial fruit-scented body washes from our adolescent pasts, products made with actual fruit extracts are still something to get mega pumped about. Apple extract, in particular, might just be the new secret weapon in your gorgeous, glowy skin game.

The forbidden fruit

Once called the forbidden fruit, no other fruit shows up so frequently in Western art and literature as the apple. An apple started the Trojan War. The Norse gods owed their immortality to apples. And the most famous artists of our time have lyricized, painted, or romanticized them.

An apple a day…

They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away, and research shows that it’s true. Apples are rich in Vitamin A, B complex, and vitamin C and are loaded with minerals. They are known to boost immunity, aid in digestion, detoxify your liver, help with weight loss, increase the endurance of your body, whiten teeth, help with detoxification of the body, and improve blood circulation. Some research even suggests that apples may reduce the risk of certain cancers

Apple extract benefits for the skin

Packed with nutrients and vitamins, an apple a day not only keeps the doctor away, but does wonders for your skin. Apples are rich in antioxidants that help protect against ultraviolet radiation and lead to younger looking skin. Apple extract is also rich in vitamin C, which prevents premature aging and promotes healthy, radiant skin.

Apple extract to fight the signs of aging

Apple extract contains high concentrations of phenolic compounds and flavonoids, both of which are warrior ingredients when it comes to fighting the effects of aging. Apple extract also includes antioxidants which protect the skin by neutralizing free-radicals present in the environment and promoting elasticity in your skin -- in turn helping to slow the signs of aging.

Apple extract for smoother skin

Apple extract is an exfoliant loaded with alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) -- malic acid being the most abundant. But, unlike many gentle exfoliants, apple extract has no scrubbing bits or microbeads— these AHAs break up the proteins that hold the skin cells together, helping to slough off the dead skin that can give your skin a dull appearance. And as an incredibly potent antioxidant, apple extract helps your skin defend itself against environmental aggressors while calming inflammation.

Who can benefit from using apple extract?

Although this fruit extract is beneficial for most skin types, if you have oily, aging or dull skin, pay attention! Apple extract can reduce the appearance of large pores(a sign often associated with oily or mature skin). And alternatively, if your skin is having a particularly dull day, a skin care product containing apple extractwill give you a much needed boost of brightness.

Eating your way to healthy skin

While using skin care products containing apple extract does wonders for the surface of your skin, nourishing your body from the inside is just as important to the overall health and appearance of your skin. Aside from eating an apple a day to keep the doctor away, you should also be munching on the delicious fruit for its beauty benefits — green apples, to be specific. The crisp, refreshing fruit packs some serious punch when it comes to maintaining beautiful skin, so eat them plain or try the green apple juice recipe below!
