SPECIAL EVENT SKINCARE - A ROUTINE TO GET THE GLOW YOUR WANT

So, you just got an invitation of a lifetime.

Your best friend is getting married and you're the maid of honor! All of your college friends are attending and that one cute guy you have been checking out for the longest time will also be there. He'll be the groom’s best man, talk about a great opportunity to hang out and get to know each other better. You've been excited about it for months, and now the wedding is in three weeks! You think to yourself, “Can it get any better than this?”

In the rush of planning for the wedding, getting fitted for your dress, shopping for shoes, and deciding how to wear your hair - it's easy to forget about the acne breakouts that have been popping up everywhere and those stubborn dark spots all over your face. Then, you look into a mirror and it hits you. “I gotta get my skin in better shape!”

You can tell that your skin needs pampering to come back to vibrance. Well, fret not! You can actually turn this around in a jiffy.

Help is on its Way

If we have to categorize people based on skin type, we can first say that there are two types of people – those born with great skin and those who weren't so lucky. If you belong to the former type, then good for you! If, however, you don't have naturally great skin, do not despair. It's not the end of the world. You can still turn your fate around by following these simple skin care tips.

Nothing Beats a Good Night’s Sleep

This tip is pretty universal. If you want to have glowing and healthy skin, change your sleeping habits.

Ditch frequent late-night dates with work or with your favorite sitcoms for an early bedtime and long hours of sleep. You see, your body boosts the blood flow to your skin when you fall into slumber. While you snooze, dead skin cells and toxins are removed from your system. Those are then replaced with new and healthy cells that give you a fresh look and feel.

What’s really good about this part of the skincare regimen is that it’s simple, effective and free. Ready to unleash your inner goddess? Well, then, like Sleeping Beauty - get tons of sleep.

Hydrate and Hydrate Some More

One of the reasons why we have skin breakouts and persistent skin problems is because we aren't hydrated enough.

There has been an outgoing debate as to whether or not drinking ample amount of water benefits your skin. One person claims that drinking water does not affect our skin’s health, someone else claims that it does. Which is true?

We say the latter is correct. Take note that your skin is an organ, and just like any organ of the human body, it is made up of cells. These cells are actually made up of water. If you don't have enough water in your body, the cells will be damaged.

Following this train of thought, we can say that if you do not drink enough water, your skin will become parched, old, and crumbly.

So, if you want to attain a fresh, youthful glow on your skin, it is imperative that you keep yourself hydrated.

Know Your Skin Type

To know what products to use, the first thing that you should do is to know your specific skin type. Do you have normal or dry skin? Is oily skin an issue you are troubled with? Or is your skin sensitive to certain products and regimens?

If you have a combination of all these skin types and also for those with oily skin, the best thing to do is to get a good night’s sleep, hydrate, and choose a facial wash with glycolic acid. This kind of acid is perfect for all kinds of skin conditions. It helps break down oil clogged in pores while it rejuvenates the skin and gives it a vibrant glow.

For those with normal skin, it does not mean that you can just try anything. It is still safe to use a facial wash that is not too harsh and skin products that maintain the clarity and healthy glow of the skin. Also, you can try skin serums with hydrating or rejuvenating properties. These kinds of serums will really help improve the look of your skin.

For those with dry and sensitive skin, look for moisturizers with tons of natural vitamin E to enliven your skin. For example, macadamia nut seed oil is high in vitamin E, an effective antioxidant that will nourish your skin. Also, if you have parched skin, it is important that you use anti-aging creams to moisturize and revitalize your skin and plump it up from within.

If You Still Got A Month To Prepare, Exfoliate!

The key to achieving perfect, younger looking skin is focus and consistent care.

Accept it or not, beauty requires effort. You cannot just go around exposing your skin to UV-rays and expect it to be melasma-free. You cannot just ignore your skin and expect to be in tip-top shape, right? Beauty requires conscious effort – determination to make yourself presentable in every way. And it isn't a crime to want to be attractive.

So, if you still have a month before you have to present yourself to the world, you're lucky! You still have time to cut loose all of the bad habits which led you to the dull complexion you have today.

The most important thing to do is to exfoliate. Scrub off the flaky, dull layers of skin and reveal the fresh, healthy, and glowing you.

Choose an exfoliating scrub suitable for your skin type. Every night before going to bed, remember to wash your face using a mild exfoliating cleanser. Do this once a week (on your first week) and gradually increase to 2 to 3 times a week on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th weeks.

Also, you may want to take a supplement of vitamin E. 400 IU of vitamin E every day will go a very long way in giving you back your youthful radiance.

Overnight Skin Tricks

Skin care should never be hurried and should instead be the result of good habits formed over time. Good skin simply doesn't happen overnight.

However, if you find yourself in an emergency situation like a last-minute date or a last-minute invitation to attend a party, remain calm. You can still have a glowing skin overnight!

Use apple cider vinegar for exfoliation

According to dermatologists and beauty experts, apple cider vinegar is actually a good agent for exfoliation. What’s even better is that it is safe for all skin types. Apply diluted apple cider vinegar all over your face in the same manner as you apply a toner. Leave it on overnight and in the morning, gently rinse your face with water. The effects are magic!

Do not eat salty food before bedtime

Salty food can make your face appear swollen and a swollen eye area will make you look tired and worn-out.

Apply firming, brightening eye products

Eye creams with ingredients to firm and brighten your skin will help to lighten the dark circles around your eyes and help give you that fresh look in the morning.

Choose either argan oil or rosehip seed oil and apply it on your skin before bedtime

Never underestimate the power of oils for our beauty and overall health being. These kinds of oils are known to protect the outer layer of the skin through the powers of antioxidants.

Use a clarifying, hydrating overnight mask

Let your skincare go to work while you sleep with an overnight mask. These products are formulated to function like a night cream, but with more concentrated ingredients for a hydrating or brightening boost. Products with hyaluronic acid and powerful antioxidant botanicals can be game changer if you're trying to wake up fresh-faced and ready to glow.

With all that has been said and done here, you are now more than equipped to go out and flaunt your inner goddess. Remember, beauty starts and ends with good skin. Take good care of your skin and it will reflect beautifully on both special days and normal days!
