
Collagen helps give skin tensile strength; elastic fibers help it stretch and recoil. Both belong to the skin’s structural system, but they are different proteins with different organization and behavior. Hydrated skin can look smoother without either protein having been rebuilt.

Skin structure also involves glycosaminoglycans, cells, blood vessels and other components. The face’s shape additionally depends on fat, bone and deeper supporting tissues. Firmness cannot be reduced to the amount of one protein.
